How do you choose your gowns?

17 April 2019

With over 170 new gowns in stock, brides often ask me what inspires you when buying your stock, and how do you choose such stunning gowns? My response is “Often I think of the decade it is befitting of, and I always  say to myself would Ginger Rogers, Grace Kelly, or Marilyn Monroe have worn it.”

By far my favourite  of the three, Ginger Rogers always looked stunning in sheath, column style, or fit and flair gowns that weren’t too figure hugging often with sleeves or a cape. All over sequins/ beading was a theme in many of her gowns with a slight flare to the bottom of the skirt (not so pronounced as a mermaid).

Our Paulette gown by Ronald Joyce channels Ginger Rogers with its all over beading and cape

This Eliza Jane Howell gown we also stock  would have looked stunning on her.

When thinking about Grace Lelly I look more for the fuller A-line with illusion/ lace neckline.

This Ronald Joyce Orleans gown we currently have is very elegant and sophisticated with a full skirt.

This Stunning Illusion Neckline from Sofia Bianca by Ronald Joyce is very Grace Kelly with its embellishment to the shoulders and waist.

Finally for Marilyn who needs no introduction having been voted one of the sexiest women of all time these are the gowns that give that Marilyn hour glass silhouette mainly mermaid but sometimes slinkier, softer gowns.

This Benjamin Roberts Feather gown recently arrived and is stunning giving a figure hugging silhouette

This Saoirse gown from Ronald Joyce channels Marilyn’s famous figure with its scalloped illusion neckline and mermaid skirt sinching in at the waist.

This Eliza Jane Howell gown we have is every inch the sexy slinky Marilyn style gown with inricate beaded detailing all over

So there you have it, now you know my decision process. When you come for your consultation when trying on your gowns you can wonder did Fifi think this was a Ginger Rogers, Grace Kelly or Marilyn gown?

What made you want to open a bridal boutique?

What made you want to open a Bridal Boutique?

4 April 2019

I have always been interested in styles from different eras. So when I came to plan my wedding I knew that I wanted a vintage style wedding. More specifically, I wanted an old Hollywood/ Art Deco theme. I have always loved old black and white films with Ginger Rogers being one of my favourite actresses of all time with her quick wit, elegance and stunning looks. I knew I wanted to channel her style on my big day.

I was so excited about shopping for gowns but was soon to have the wind taken out of my sales as I visited each Wedding dress shop. One after the other I was greeted with a Luke warm welcome at best. I didn’t feel very catered for by the shop assistants after they found out I had chosen to buy a sample gown.

I explained to each shop assistant I wanted a vintage gown to which they held up many different gowns none of which I thought fitted my style. Finally, I saw the most stunning A line gown on a sale rail (with a sad red tag hanging from it) and as soon as I put it on I felt a million dollars. It was a few sizes bigger but I was told I could have it altered. I felt amazing in the gown on my wedding day with its Art Deco embellishment and soft lace and tulle I felt like a film star.

It was soon after I decided that Brides deserved to have a warm welcome, and to be given first class treatment at a bridal boutique no matter how much they are spending. I thought that I could be the person to provide this and help people to find their dream gown from a shop full of stunning sample gowns ( and not one red sad tag in sight ), with brides paying up to half price for a designer gown. I also decided that I wanted it to be a vintage style Bridal Boutique that catered for vintage style brides, & alternative brides, and thus Fifi’s Bridal Boutique was born.

I feel I am so lucky to do this job and build a rapport with brides helping them to achieve a certain look on their special day And seeing their reaction when they find their gown.

I look forward to working with you to find your dream gown!
